Makeup that doesn’t quite look like makeup; colorful pastels; bold, rich and playful tones; and highlighted skin are just some of the trending makeup fashions that will see fashionistas through the summer season. Indeed, this season’s over-arching look is beautifully natural and fresh, using products to highlight your best features without looking overdone.
Each season global cosmetic company MAC works with those at the forefront of the fashion industry to showcase the very latest makeup trends. Senior makeup artist for MAC, Gisel Cavillo, shared some of the trends seen at this year’s fashion shows, as well as ways readers can take the looks from runway to reality at home.
“Each year we do more than 850 shows where we work with fashion designers, stylists and art directors around the most important cities in the world,” Cavillo said.
“Inspirations are collected from all of the shows and cities we are able to work in.
“Trends give you ideas and inspiration, but it’s always important that you add your own element of style to your look.”
Here are this season’s four key trends:
Mascara and liner – these are two products you’ll need in abundance this summer. This trend is all about drawing attention to the eyes. Think richly coated eyelashes and using eyeliner creatively to highlight your eye shape. Indeed, eyeliner this season can be used to replace eyeshadow. Try a simple line drawn on the crease or on the outer corner of the eyes to beautifully highlight them.

It’s time to put away your contour powder. This season it is all about adding light, rather than depth, to highlight and raise the dimensions of your face. Use products to highlight skin on the center of the face and the cheekbones for a stunning, radiant look.

Think color! Pretty pastels and bold, rich tones, from royal blues, to ochers, and burnt corals add a fun burst of color to the face. Dust on eyes, paint on lips, and add to the cheeks. This look is effortless, not fussy and above all, fun. Perfect for Cayman’s island lifestyle.

No makeup look
The no-makeup look has been on trend for a while and allows skin to look its most natural. This summer the look is clean and not overworked. Prep skin so it looks its absolute best and then simply add concealer where needed. Use just the bare necessities to create a barely-there look.
