It’s a new year and a whole new you. For many the new year heralds a time to clear out the old and bring in the new. Makeup trends vary wildly from year-to-year and this year is no different. Makeup is a quick and easy way to update your look effortlessly. De-clutter your makeup bag and re-stock with this year’s hottest colours. Weekender spoke to Gisel Cavillo, M.A.C senior makeup artist, to find out what this year’s latest makeup trends are.
What’s this year’s overall makeup look?
Gisel: There are many different classical elements in makeup each season. For this year’s Spring Summer 2012 expect to see shocking waves of colour. Metallics are back in a bold way. Glowing skin and natural full brows make their comeback too.
What will we be seeing a lot of on the catwalks and how can people translate this easily into their daily look?
Gisel: This season there is a strong approach to bold colour–a look which is known as Neon. Neon does not imply that you would simply use neon colours on the face but that bold hues, such as reds, oranges, blues and greens are used on eyes or lips with an effortless approach. Its fun, it’s bold and I think its classic. It brings life to makeup.
What are some of the latest foundations and powder trends?
Gisel: We have a collection called Mineralized Skin Care and Mineralized Perfectly Finish–a collection of skin care that includes a complete regime. We also have new concealers and powders that are charged with minerals, which allow a flawless application.
What’s the latest look for eyes?
Gisel: Bold colours and metallics framed by a strong full brow.
How can people easily replicate this in a day-to-day look?
Gisel: You can add colour on eyes like a green or blue. By doing this you don’t have to apply it all over eyelids, you can just add a bold eyeliner or add a bit on the bottom of the lashes for that pop of colour. If eyes are not your preference you can opt for a bold hue on the lips.
What about colours for lips?
Gisel: Pale colours are out and bold colours are back in. This year it’s all about making a statement and having fun. Try Morange, Girl About Town, Saint Germain or our new Viva Glam Nikki.
What’s on trend for cheeks?
Gisel: This season there are a lot of warm peaches, bright pinks and lots of colour on the cheeks. Just as we celebrate lips and eyes, its important not to forget that adding blush to the apple of the cheeks gives a beautiful glow that allows you to look fresh and warm.
